Manchester United star gets six-fold salary increase as he signs lucrative new contract:

Kobbie Mainoo has signed a bumper new deal to remain at Manchester United until 2031.

The midfielder, who was on wages of £25,000-a-week, will now take home approximately £120,000-a-week.

That figure could balloon up to £150,000-a-week through bonuses.

Mainoo’s new deal represents a remarkable turnaround in his fortunes at Old Trafford.

The 21-year-old was on the periphery under former Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim.

In fact, Mainoo’s only start this season on Amorim’s watch this term came during their embarrassing Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town last August.

Mainoo’s reduced role sparked rumours he could seek a move elsewhere in January, with Bayern Munich and Napoli two clubs who were credited with an interest.

It represented an alarming fall from grace for Mainoo, who scored the winner for United to help them beat Manchester City in the 2024 FA Cup final.

However, Old Trafford chiefs held on to Mainoo throughout the January window.

The Mainoo man

It proved to be a wise call, especially once Amorim was sacked and replaced by Michael Carrick until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Under Carrick, Mainoo has started all 12 of United’s league fixtures he has been available for.

The only game he has missed was a 2-1 loss to Leeds on April 13, where he was ruled out due to injury.

But he was thrust straight back into the action in United’s following game, which was a 1-0 win away to Chelsea.

What did Mainoo say?

Speaking after the news was confirmed on Thursday, Mainoo said:  “Manchester United has always been my home; this special club means everything to my family.

“I have grown up seeing the impact that our club has on our city, and I relish the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt.

“From The Cliff, to Littleton Road, to Carrington and ultimately Old Trafford, the journey so far has been incredible. I have the privilege of living my dream every single day, with the same relentless desire to succeed here as when I joined my first training session at the age of six.

“We can all feel the momentum building inside the club. I am determined to step up and play my role in helping Manchester United to regularly fight for major trophies in the years ahead.”

Mainoo’s performance against the Blues earned high praise from Carrick, who felt it was the youngster’s best display since returning to the Old Trafford dugout.

“To step up and put so many phases or sides to his game tonight… I thought he looked so composed and so calm, he had a real presence about him, defended well,” Carrick said.

“It’s not easy when you’ve got good players around you and it was a good battle between him and Cole Palmer.

“So he had to be right at it tonight but as you saw he had so much quality and composure in a tough environment really, to show us what he can do.”

Mainoo’s turnaround in form also earned him a recall to the England squad, as the midfielder was called up for recent friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.

Prior to the Uruguay match, Mainoo’s last England appearance was in September 2024

The 21-year-old enjoyed a 21-minute cameo off the bench in the Uruguay draw and started the 2-1 loss to Japan.

Mainoo’s fresh deal follows hot on the heels of central defender Harry Maguire, who also recently pledged his future to United.

Maguire, who was due to become a free agent this summer, signed until June 2027, with the option for a further year.

The defender’s new deal will take his stay at Old Trafford to a remarkable eight years, having first arrived in 2019 from Leicester.
