There are growing reports in Italy that Roma are aiming to land a deal for Olympique de Marseille forward Mason Greenwood in a deal that could profit both the French side and the player’s former club, Manchester United.

Manchester United entitled to ‘up to 50%’ of Greenwood’s next move

According to reports from the likes of La Gazzetta dello Sport and various others across Italy, Greenwood is Roma’s ‘first-choice’ signing to strengthen Gian Piero Gasperini’s attack this summer.

The Giallorossi have reportedly been in direct contact with the player’s father, and it has been said that the positive experience that Donyell Malen has enjoyed since moving to the Stadio Olimpico in January is an encouraging factor.

Marseille are expected to seek a fee in the region of €50m-€60m for the 24-year-old, whom they signed for a reported sum of €26m plus a hefty sell-on fee from Manchester United two years ago.

According to reports from the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are entitled to ‘up to 50%’ of Greenwood’s next transfer fee, which means that if Marseille bring in the €50m-€60m fee they are currently seeking, United would be entitled to €25m-€30m.

Marseille, meanwhile, may be forced to sell Greenwood, as reports indicate that they will need to sell players before June 30 in order to comply with financial regulations in France.
