Former Man Utd forward Cristiano Ronaldo gave his mother a surprise gift for her birthday after flying back to Portugal

Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo surprised his mother with a birthday gift after jetting back to Portugal.

Ronaldo was on the scoresheet for Al Nassr in a 4-1 win over Al Taawoun on Saturday in his final game of 2023. The 38-year-old, who signed for the Saudi Arabian side last January after his second spell with United came to an end, scored 54 goals across the calendar year for club and country, including 10 in nine games for Portugal.

The win over Al Taawoun signalled the start of a winter break for Ronaldo, who wasted little time in flying back to his home island of Madeira. The forward arrived in time to celebrate his mother Dolores Alveiro’s 69th birthday on Sunday.

A video on Ronaldo’s sister Katia Aveiro’s social media showed his mother being led to a surprise gift by her grandson Cristiano Jr. Ronaldo presented his mother with a new Porsche Cayenne, accompanied with a red-ribbon bow, which prompted an emotional reaction.

Captioning the video, Ronaldo’s sister wrote: "If she is happy, it is because her son remembers her and not because of the value of the gift. Honour your father and your mother and your days on earth will be long."

Ronaldo had time to celebrate with his family as Al Nassr will not be in competitive action until the club come up against Al Fehia in the AFC Champions League on February 12. However, the iconic forward will have a chance to go up against his familiar rival Lionel Messi next month.

Al Nassr will face off against Messi’s Inter Miami in a friendly as part of the Riyadh Season Cup on February 1.
