It felt like it would never come but it seems the prolonged takeover saga may finally be nearing an end.

It may not quite be the outcome most Manchester United fans had hoped for, with the Glazers set to remain at the club, but the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe will at least be a step in the right direction.

It's claimed the INEOS founder will take control of footballing operations at United, with the lifelong United fan hoping to eventually take full control of the club. How far down the line that will be remains to be seen, but United fans can at least take solace in the fact the Glazers will no longer own such a hefty stake in their club.

Away from the takeover saga, United will resume their Premier League campaign in just five days' time, with the club yet again pencilled in for the 8pm kick-off on Saturday. Their last outing in the unusual slot saw them beat Burnley 1-0 at Turf Moor, and a similar result against Sheffield United this weekend would see Erik ten Hag's men record back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.
