PLAYER OPINIONS: HERRERA AND SMALLING

Ander Herrera and Chris Smalling both spoke to MUTV following Manchester United's slender Premier League defeat to Chelsea on Sunday. Here’s a summary of what the defender and midfielder had to say:HERRERA

"It’s disappointing for us because we came here to win, we pressed them and we created a couple of good chances in the first half. They did as well because they are a good team but we had very good chances in the first half to score, and also in the second half with a couple of good shots from Fellaini and Rashford.
"They started better than us in the second half but that can happen in football. In the first ten, fifteen minutes they played better in the second half but we played better in the first half.
"When you lose you want to play as soon as possible but we have to wait a couple of weeks but also it’s good to have some rest. Some players have played every game since the other international break so it’s good to have a rest and recover."
SMALLING
"The result is frustrating because we put in so much effort and I think we controlled large parts of the game. We put them on the back foot in the first half, we just needed to take one of the chances when we had the momentum. We also put Chelsea under some pressure in the last twenty minutes and I thought we deserved a goal.
"It's unfortunate there's now an international break but I think we’ll have to regroup and in our next game make sure we put on a performance to rectify this. I think it’s about us getting back to Old Trafford for that game and put on a performance that the fans can be proud of."
