JOSE MOURINHO: I LOVE MY PLAYERS
Jose Mourinho has emphasised his affection for his Manchester United players ahead of today’s Premier League match against his former club Chelsea.
The manager was asked in his pre-match press conference if he is still happy at United, after clearly showing his displeasure with the team in the wake of the surprise defeat to Huddersfield Town last month.
"Yes, I love my players," he said. "You try to create a mystery because of my reaction after Huddersfield, but there is no mystery about it.
“I was not speaking with Ander Herrera anymore? Pfft! Ander Herrera is the kind of guy that I have to push away because he wants to speak with me all the time! I don't know where you get these kinds of stories but, yes, I am happy.”
United have recorded three successive victories since the defeat to Huddersfield, including a comfortable 2-0 triumph against Benfica in Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League fixture - a result that put the Reds on the verge of qualification to the knockout stages.
The 100 per cent record in Europe, progress in the Carabao Cup, and seven wins from 10 games in the Premier League so far add up to an impressive start to the campaign in all competitions.
When asked what the most pleasing aspect of United’s opening spell was, Mourinho said: “We lost one match in August, September, October. Premier League, Champions League, League Cup - we lost one match.
“So, I think it was easier to ask what was the unpleasant thing, or what thing I didn't like - it was the match against Huddersfield.”
United will look to continue the impressive recent run of form in this afternoon's clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Kick-off is at 16:30 GMT and the build-up on MUTV begins at 14:30.
