MONDAY BRIEFING: 7 THINGS YOU MAY HAVE MISSED

We appreciate it is tough to keep up with events surrounding our great club, Manchester United, which is why Your Monday Briefing is here to provide a round-up of the weekend...

INJURY FOR FELLAINI

The main headline of the weekend for Reds supporters is perhaps the injury sustained by in-form midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who was taken off with what appeared to be a knee injury after just 29 minutes of Belgium’s 4-3 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo. His national team boss Roberto Martinez said later: “We're worried about him. We fear there's ligament damage.” Romelu Lukaku also missed that game with an injury and it remains to be seen if he will feature against Cyprus on Tuesday night.
MATIC AND MICKI SCORENo fewer than 10 first-team players were in FIFA World Cup qualifying action over the weekend and two of them – Nemanja Matic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan – scored for their respective countries. Notably, Victor Lindelof was also involved in Sweden’s impressively one-sided 8-0 win over Luxembourg. Catch up on every result involving our lads via the International Reds rolling blog.
WORLD CUP GOAL FOR GOMESAcademy prospect Angel Gomes is currently away captaining England’s Under-17s team at the World Cup in India. In the Three Lions' opening game of the tournament, he scored the final goal of a 4-0 win over Chile with a stunning free-kick in the 81st minute. It followed his admirable set-piece scored for United in the recent UEFA Youth League win over CSKA Moscow in Russia.
EDWARDS’ TOP FIVE SIGNINGSFormer Manchester United chairman Martin Edwards is on the promotional trail after writing and releasing an autobiography called Red Glory, which is available to buy at the Old Trafford Megastore. In an exclusive interview with MUTV’s Stewart Gardner that we published on Saturday, he lists his top five signings as Eric Cantona, Peter Schmeichel, Denis Irwin, Bryan Robson and Roy Keane. A very, very strong group!
THE FIVE WHO GOT AWAYWhile chatting to us, Edwards also highlighted a handful of big-name players who could have become United players during his time in charge. They included Zinedine Zidane, Paul Gascoigne, Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and John Barnes. Find out why they didn’t arrive in our interview.
OLD TRAFFORD HOSTS GRAND FINALThe annual Betfred Super League Grand Final was held at Old Trafford on Saturday and Leeds Rhinos were triumphant with a 24-6 win over Castleford. Victorious head coach Brian McDermott told BBC Radio Leeds: "I am proud and excited and pumped - I can't really believe what we've just done!"
CROLLA WINS AT THE ARENACongratulations to boxer and Old Trafford season-ticket holder Anthony Crolla after his unanimous points victory over Scottish opponent Ricky Burns. The lifelong Red was cheered on by thousands of United fans on Twitter and at the Manchester Arena, as well as club captain Michael Carrick who was ringside.
