SQUAD 2017/18 - GOALKEEPERS

In the last week before the big Premier League kick-off, we're profiling each area of Manchester United's first-team squad as it stands. We begin by recapping the three senior goalkeepers' form last term, as well as looking at their pre-season exploits...
DAVID DE GEA
United career stats: 269 appearances, 96 clean sheets
De Gea enjoyed a fine 2016/17 campaign between the sticks for United as he made 45 appearances across all competitions, in the process of earning himself a spot in the PFA Team of the Year.
The 26-year-old Spaniard has continued where he left off last term in pre-season, and he featured in five of the Reds’ seven friendlies.
United boss Jose Mourinho was keen to praise De Gea's work ethic while Stateside, especially given Sergio Romero's impressive Europa League performances during 2016/17.
“I think the best thing that could happen to David was the way Romero played last season,” Mourinho said. “Because until then David was clearly a safe man, a safe choice and after what Romero did last season David is training in another way.”
SERGIO ROMERO
United career stats: 28 appearances, 18 clean sheets
Romero quickly established himself as the Reds’ no.1 Europa League stopper last term and became a key man during United's road to glory, featuring 12 times in the competition.
He played in five of the Tour 2017 games and he has continued to impress with his acrobatic performances.
The 30-year-old signed a new four-year deal earlier this summer and declared: “Who wouldn’t want to be at the biggest club in the world? We have great goalkeepers here and we are always learning from each other. I am looking forward to helping the team build on last season’s success in 2017/18.”
JOEL PEREIRA
United career stats 2 appearances, 2 clean sheets
The 2016/17 campaign will always be one to remember for 21-year-old Pereira as he made his United debut in the 4-0 FA Cup victory over Wigan in January.
Pereira also featured once in the Premier League last term, as well as spending part of the season on loan at Portuguese outfit Belenenses where he impressed, making 10 league and cup appearances.
The Portugal Under-21s international featured in four of the Reds’ pre-season matches, during what was a memorable first tour with the senior squad.
