The Red Devils have spent £140million so far this summer but there’s room left in the budget for a wide player.
United had been keen on signing Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan but have been priced out of a move and Mourinho remains determined to sign a fourth player this summer.
Mahrez released a statement at the start of the summer revealing his desire to leave Leicester and the Algerian hasn’t changed his mind since.
The former PFA Player of the Year was seen in discussion with Paul Pogba throughout United’s 2-0 win against the Foxes on Saturday and that led to speculation the Algerian was wanted at Old Trafford.
Mourinho is a huge fan of the 26-year-old and would like to add him to his squad but the United board are unconvinced, according to French TV station
The Portuguese boss was given £150m to spend in whichever way he pleased last summer. It made for a refreshing change from how he was budgeted at Chelsea and Inter Milan.
However, Mourinho is closing on his £150m budget this summer and anything above the alotted transfer kitty will need to be given the green light by United’s board.
