VALERENGA 0 MANUTD 3
30 Jul, 2017
FULL-TIME OBSERVATIONS
ManUtd.com's Ryan Grant at the Ullevaal Stadium: "Job done for United, then, and plenty of positives to take from it too. I'm off to hear from Jose Mourinho in his post-match press conference, stick around for reaction!"
FT: VALERENGA 0 UNITED 3
There you have it - a fifth win on Tour 2017! Goals from Fellaini, Lukaku and McTominay did the damage in Oslo.
88' - Valerenga come forward in numbers but Pereira easily claims a cross from the left. That's more or less the first thing he's had to do since being introduced on the hour mark.
86' - The Reds are cruising towards victory here, keeping the ball well in midfield. Mourinho will be pleased with what he's seen from his players tonight.
83' - Fosu-Mensah has been lively since coming on, regularly popping up in different positions down the right wing. His willingness to get forward and track back has benefitted United in the second 45 minutes.
80' - A decent opening for the home side following a mis-placed pass in the United half, but again it's comfortably over the bar. Just 10 minutes to go here in Oslo.
78' - So close to a fourth for United! Following confusion in the Valerenga defence, McTominay had an almost-open net to aim at, but his goal-bound effort was well blocked.
YELLOW CARD
76' - Valerenga midfielder Abdisalam goes into the book for a late challenge on McTominay.
73' - This is a scoreline which now reflects United's dominance and, seconds ago, Lukaku almost made it four with a powerful low strike which drifted just wide.
GOAL! VALERENGA 0 UNITED 3 (MCTOMINAY 70')
United have a third! This time it's McTominay, who holds off his defender in the box, turns and nonchalantly places an effort into the corner. What a moment for the youngster.
PIC: A GREAT OCCASION
65' - From here, it's really noticeable how vocal Ander Herrera is on the pitch. The Spaniard is constantly helping his team-mates by giving instructions, and clearly thinks about every move he makes.
63' - What a chance for Valerenga. The hosts could and should have pulled one back from 10 yards, but the ball sails over the bar, to United's relief. The Norwegians may not get another opportunity like that.
ROMERO & POGBA OFF, J.PEREIRA & MCTOMINAY ON
There's the double substitution, meaning United have now used all 11 available substitutes.
60' - We've reached the hour mark at the Ullevaal Stadium, with United still in front by two goals. As I type, the Reds are preparing two more changes.
58' - More dancing feet from Pogba and then Martial draws a reaction from the crowd - the Reds are clearly enjoying themselves out there. Valerenga haven't offered much going forward tonight.
PIC: POGBA IN ACTION
53' - Almost another headed goal for United, as Martial leaps to meet a cross but directs his effort off target. He and Pereira in particular have looked good since coming on.
51' - So, as promised, those confirmed changes: Mitchell, Tuanzebe, Smalling, Lindelof, Fosu-Mensah, Herrera, Pereira, Martial and Lukaku are on for the Reds, with only Romero and Pogba remaining from the first half.
PIC: TWO GOALS TO THE GOOD
49' - It's worth saying that, just before the goal, Anthony Martial showed some brilliant footwork to win the corner, reminiscent of his dribble in the lead-up to Jesse Lingard's goal against Real Madrid in America.
GOAL! VALERENGA 0 UNITED 2 (LUKAKU 47')
Well, that didn't take long! Lukaku rises highest to head home Andreas Pereira's corner. Get in!
MATCH RESTARTS
46' - The Reds get us back under way.
MATCH RESTARTS
NINE CHANGES AT THE BREAK
As expected, it's a new-look United for the second half, with several changes being made (we'll confirm all of those for you shortly). Romelu Lukaku was the last out of the tunnel, and received a huge welcome from the fans.
FIRST-HALF OBSERVATIONS
ManUtd.com's Ryan Grant at the Ullevaal Stadium: "So far, so good for United. One goal ahead and no injuries to report - Jose will be a happy man. I think Paul Pogba deserves a special mention, he looks razor sharp in midfield, which bodes well ahead of the new season."
HT: VALERENGA 0 UNITED 1
There's the half-time whistle, meaning United take a narrow lead into the break following that Fellaini goal on 44 minutes. The Reds have totally dominated proceedings so far.
45' - We're into one minute of added time, as boos ring around the Ullevaal Stadium following a harsh decision to award a foul against Pogba.
GOAL! VALERENGA 0 UNITED 1 (FELLAINI 44')
Yes! The pressure finally pays off as Mkhitaryan's pin-point cross reaches Fellaini at the far post, and the Belgian heads home via a deflection. That'll do nicely!
43' - Great persistence from Rashford, who beats his man, loses possession and wins it back again, before helping set up a chance. The ball eventually bounced up for Mata, who unleashed a fierce volley, but it was well blocked.
41' - Rashford is now back on and moving freely, which is good to see. We're now under five minutes away from half time - there shouldn't be much time added on.
39' - Oh! Chance for United, as Blind attempts to backheel Mkhitaryan's cross home, but it goes narrowly wide. Meanwhile, Rashford is down and receiving treatment.
36' - All 11 of United's substitutes are currently warming up on the touchline. Perhaps the likes of Romelu Lukaku can make a difference during the second half.
PIC: ALL SQUARE
30' - More top defending from Eric Bailly stops a runner getting goal-side. The Ivorian's positioning was brilliant there, and it had to be. Half an hour gone here in Oslo.
28' - Close! Rashford picks up the ball on the edge of the area and drives a low shot towards goal, but it flashes just wide.
26' - United are continuing to have the lion's share of possession in this first half, but don't yet have anything to show for it. Seconds ago, Pogba forced a save from the Valerenga keeper with a low, curling effort.
24' - There's a temporary break in play at the moment, with Mkhitaryan down and in need of treatment. Replays showed that the midfielder's knee collided with one of the Valerenga midfielders in a challenge, but he'll be fine to continue.
22' - Mkhitaryan is involved yet again, this time volleying wide after some neat link-up play with Pogba on the edge of the box. Those two in particular have been our creative sparks.
20' - Unlucky! More swift passing from United almost results in an opening, as Mkhitaryan tries a deft flick towards Rashford, but it just skips away from the striker.
18' - An excellent challenge from Bailly denies Valerenga a potential chance, before Pogba sets United away on the counter with a delightful pass out wide. The Reds look sharp here.
16' - The Reds are moving through the gears now, and it feels like a matter of time before the deadlock is broken. Can we capitalise on this period of pressure?
14' - Off the post! United are so unlucky as Pogba's curling effort comes back off the woodwork after some lovely footwork just inside the area. That was a let-off for the hosts.
12' - As always, Rashford is working hard to chase down defenders and almost got his reward there, after getting a toe on the goalkeeper's clearance. Meanwhile, Pogba earns the Reds a free-kick in a dangerous position...
10' - Other than those two early shots from Mkhitaryan and Pogba, there hasn't been any goalmouth action of note in the opening 10 minutes. As I type, United's claims for a penalty are being waved away by the referee, but it's unclear what the incident was.
7' - It's been interesting so far to see how often Mourinho's men are looking to get the ball wide as early as possible. On more than one occasion, Daley Blind has received the ball and quickly looked for the runs of Rashford.
5' - As expected, it's United who are controlling the tempo in the early stages, with the likes of Carrick and Pogba seeing plenty of the ball in midfield.
3' - Chance! The Reds have made an excellent start, here. First, Mata's superb ball set Mkhitaryan away, but the Armenian saw his effort saved, before Pogba curled a shot just over the bar.
KICK-OFF
1' - We're under way in Oslo!
