Our MUFC Milestones series, looking at Manchester United's achievements during 2016/17, continues with the records that were broken by the team...
The 2016/17 season was one to remember for Manchester United, as the Reds won three pieces of silverware and secured Champions League football for the next campaign.

Jose Mourinho's men won the Community Shield, EFL Cup and Europa League last term and in doing so, passed a number of important milestones along the way.

Here, we take a chronological look at five team landmarks reached last term...

SEVENTEEN SHIELDS

The dramatic 2-1 victory over then league champions Leicester City in August's Community Shield match at Wembley Stadium was significant for a couple of reasons. Not only did the result deliver a statement of intent ahead of the 2016/17 season, it also extended the club's dominance in the curtain-raising competition. It was the Reds' 17th outright Shield win, with Arsenal being the next most successful side on 13 triumphs.

2,000 PREMIER LEAGUE POINTS

Let's fast forward to February, and the Reds' Premier League match against Watford at Old Trafford. On the day, United secured a routine 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Juan Mata and Anthony Martial, but there was a bigger picture to be celebrated. The win took United's all-time Premier League points total to 2,000, a figure no other club had achieved before; it was also the Reds' 599th win since the competition's inception in 1992, teeing us up nicely for yet another footballing first...

600 PREMIER LEAGUE WINS

Just over a month after the triumph over Watford, United reached another league landmark. The impressive 3-1 victory at Middlesbrough was the Reds' 600th win in the Premier League - at the time, that was 83 more than the closest contenders Arsenal on 517. The historic result came in the club's 951st match in the competition, with the overall record then including 204 draws and 147 defeats. Sir Alex Ferguson was the manager for a massive 528 of those 600 wins (from his 810 Premier League games in charge).

LONGEST UNBEATEN RUN IN A SEASON

While the 1-1 home draw with Swansea City on 30 April left United fans and players alike feeling frustrated, it was a result which ultimately confirmed a new club record. The Reds had played 25 consecutive Premier League games (won 13, drawn 12) without losing, surpassing the club's previous best unbeaten run in a single league season, back in 2010/11 (24 games).

FULL SET OF MAJOR HONOURS

Mourinho's men saved the most significant landmark until last, with the club's first ever appearance in a Europa League final providing the perfect platform to end the mammoth 64-match season on a high. An eventual 2-0 win over Ajax in Stockholm completed a full set of major honours in United's illustrious history and meant the Reds were just the fifth team to have won all three of Europe's main club competitions - the Champions League (formerly the European Cup), the Europa League (or UEFA Cup) and the Cup Winners' Cup (abolished in 1999). The only other sides who have achieved that feat are Ajax, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Juventus.
